Most of us work a full or part time job and are not able to full time travel. But we are thankful that we still have time to enjoy traveling in our time off. We try to make time for weekend get-a-ways or maybe week get-a-ways. The longest trip we have taken in our RV (Over-Yonder) is to the tip of Florida, 1000 miles from us.
When we were tent camping we organized our needed items in boxes and bags and stored them in our shed. Although it was more work to go camping it was well worth it when camp was set up. Over Yonder is much more self contained however there are always some additional items that have to be included.
Any part of a great trip is planning. This is essential for any trip you take away from home. It's hard to look ahead and try to foresee your needs when you are a days drive from your home base. That why we always use a check list that we update with every excursion. Below is our camping check list we created with an Excel program.
Setting Up a Home base.
One thing part time RV'ers or any traveler does not have is time. We must utilize our time wisely since we must be back at work on Monday. Often when we visit a new area we will want to sight see as much as we can. This is a critical part of planning and scheduling.
Another tip we have used personally and have also heard from several of the You Tubers we follow is to check out reviews for your potential Home base - do not just rely on websites trying to entice you to stay. We once booked an extraordinary hotel for our granddaughters visit with us based on their website photos of the rooms and large outdoor pool only to realize upon our check in that while the pictures may have been accurate several years ago they were no longer true. Do a little research - it will be worth your time and effort.
The main thing to remember- even if you have to repeat it to yourself over and over in your head - is that no matter what- you are making memories. Life and websites can throw you a curve ball every now and then - the important thing is that you are able to adapt to whatever is put in front of you and make the most of it. Careful planning is essential to making a vacation fun however it is not a guarantee for an error free trip. And as always - remember " Life takes you places - Love brings you home."
